Crime in Cape Coral drops 5 percent
Cape Coral crime property and violent crime fell in the first six months of 2015 compared to last year, continuing the citys run as one of the safest large cities in Florida.
Significantly, homicides are at zero compared to two such cases at this point in the year of 2014. Violent crime also known as Part 1 crimes include homicides, sex offenses, aggravated assault and robbery fell from 116 such incidents to 114.
But the drop in property crimes burglary, theft and motor vehicle theft was the main driver of the crease. Property crime fell from 1,630 incidents to 1,552 incidents.
Cape Coral Police DepartmentSpokesman Detective Sgt. Dana Coston said Cape Coral residents are the ones making it happen.
Probably the largest single factor (for the downturn in crime), is that we have great relationship between the agency and the citizens, Coston said. When we have a crime happen, we have members of the public who are willing to provide information. Without good solid criminal intelligence, our investigators can be stymied.
