Welcome to Bonita Springs, Florida
Bonita Springs started as a one-time camp for government surveyors that were working in the dank swamps of SW Florida. The crew pitched their camp near a spring that local Indians believed could heal the sick and once the crew left, the area become known as "Survey". Survey began to flourish once Braxton B. Coomer purchased 6,000 acres of land in the 1880's and opened a pineapple, banana, and coconut plantation. By 1912 J. Henry Ragsdale migrated to the area from Tennessee and purchased 2,400 acres of land, which in turn led to the addition of railroads. Ragsdale believed that the name "Survey" lacked appeal and changed the name to Bonita Springs in an effort to attract new residents. In 1928 the completion of the Tamiami Trail, named in honor of the accomplishment of completing a trail that ran from Tampa to Miami, SW Florida finally became connected by road to the rest of the country.
Today, Bonita Springs continues to grow and attract new residents as those who come to visit can't help but return to this unique little town that has so much to offer. Located near the first four year university in SW Florida, Gulf Coast University, Bonita Springs is becoming a "college town", with shopping malls, movie theatres and even a performing arts hall! Although these amenities are a drawing point to Bonita Springs, the real attraction is the same as it was 100's of years ago: the white sandy beaches, breath taking sunsets and the small town Florida charm.
Whether you are raising a family, starting a business or looking for the perfect place to retire, Bonita Springs offers a large variety of real estate options. Single family homes, condominiums on the beach, waterfront properties, gated communities and large acre farms are all available in Bonita Springs.
