Welcome to Naples, Florida
Although, founded in 1876 by the Weeks brothers, John and Madison, Naples did not begin to draw residents until the Florida Land Boom of the 1880's. A group of prominent businessmen from Tallahassee came to the area and formed the Naples Town Improvement Company, platted and surveyed and began selling lots at $10 apiece. By 1887 U.S. Senator and former Confederate General, John Stuart Williams along with his partner, Louisville businessman Walter N. Haldman, arrived in Naples and reorganized the Naples Town Improvement Company by forming The Naples Company and began building the town with visions of winter tourism, railroads and sea commerce. The Naples Company purchased the fastest steamship on the coast, known as the "Fearless", captained by Captain Merritt, in an effort to transport passengers to and from Punta Gorda. However, in low tide situations the transport was unstable and passengers had to shuttle ashore. This led to the construction of the "first" Naples Pier. Over the years, due to hurricanes and one unfortunate cigarette incident the Naples Pier has been re-constructed on four separate occasions!
Self dubbed "Golf Capital of the World", Naples claims to have more holes per capita than any other community! Hosting major state, national and professional tournaments for decades, including the LG Championship (Seniors Tour)! With a multitude of challenging courses, it's a new golf experience every day. If Golf is your game, Naples is your town!
The City of Naples is one of the few beach-front communities that promote unlimited access to nearly ALL of the beaches within the community. At the end of every avenue, within the city limits, lies an access point for the public. In addition, there are a number of public water parks along the shore and a public fishing pier.
The mellow temperatures of the Gulf of Mexico provide year round varieties of catchable fish. Whether your prefer fishing offshore, off the pier or in the backwaters, Naples provides ample opportunities to reel in the big one!
With seven miles of white sandy beaches, breathtaking sunsets reflecting off the beautiful Gulf of Mexico and over 80 championship golf courses, Naples has remained a haven for winter tourists and residents alike, since the late 1800's.
